La Cala Hills

La Cala Hills — a golf-side hillside of gated apartment phases above Mijas Costa.

La Cala Hills sits inland and elevated on the slopes beside Mijas Golf, in the municipality of Mijas Costa, roughly midway between Fuengirola and the seaside village of La Cala de Mijas. It is a settled residential pocket rather than a beachfront one: the coast and the sand at La Cala de Mijas are about ten minutes down the hill by car, Fuengirola a similar run the other way, and Málaga airport sits some twenty-five to thirty minutes along the A-7 and AP-7. The trade-off for being set back from the water is what most buyers come for here — green outlooks over the fairways and olive slopes, a quieter setting, and more space for the money than the seafront commands.

What the homes are like

Apartments dominate La Cala Hills, with penthouses on the upper floors and a scattering of townhouses and detached villas around the edges. The estate is organised into a run of gated phases — Fase 1 through to the later builds — alongside named pockets such as La Cala Alta, Las Lomas de Mijas Golf, Montebello, Golden Hills, Doña Beni and the townhouses of Residencial Aranda. Most are 2014-era and newer Mediterranean blocks in landscaped communal gardens, with generous terraces, fitted kitchens and underground parking. The typical flat is a two- or three-bedroom with a wide terrace facing the golf and, from the higher phases, glimpses of the sea. Communal pools, padel and tennis courts and mature gardens are standard, and several of the gated phases run concierge and round-the-clock security.

Who it suits

This is family and golfer territory more than party territory. The walkable layout, the on-site supermarket, bars and restaurants, and the proximity to Mijas Golf make it an easy lock-up-and-leave or full-time base. Year-round residents and retirees sit comfortably alongside golfing second-home owners and long-let investors. St Anthony's College, one of the longer-established British-curriculum schools on the coast, is within a short drive in Mijas Costa, which keeps school-age families in the picture.

What you'll typically pay

As a guide, two-bedroom apartments here generally start in the high-€200,000s, with larger three-bedroom flats and penthouses running up through the €400,000s and into the €600,000s for the best-positioned upper-floor homes. Townhouses and the detached villas sit above that again. Orientation, floor and golf view move the price more than square metres do — a south-west penthouse and a north-facing ground floor of similar size can be a world apart, and we'll always tell you when a home is priced for the view it doesn't quite have.

Getting around

You'll want a car here — the hillside setting rewards one. The A-7 and AP-7 are minutes away and put the whole western Costa within reach: La Cala de Mijas, Fuengirola, Marbella around twenty minutes west, the airport under half an hour east. The nearest train is the Fuengirola line, with Torreblanca and Fuengirola stations the usual stops, and local buses link the estate down to Fuengirola. Day to day, the supermarket, golf clubhouse and restaurants on the doorstep mean you can leave the car parked more than you'd expect.

How we work

After twenty years on the Costa del Sol we know these phases block by block — which terraces hold the sun, which communities have the lower fees, which sellers are open to a sensible offer. We'll walk you round honestly, flag the homes we think are over-priced and tell you why, and only put you in front of the ones worth your time. If La Cala Hills is on your list, drop us a line

It sits inland from the coast, about a ten-minute drive down to the beaches at La Cala de Mijas and a similar run into Fuengirola, with Málaga airport some twenty-five to thirty minutes away via the A-7 and AP-7.
What kind of properties are in La Cala Hills?
The estate is predominantly apartments and penthouses in gated, landscaped communities, with a smaller number of townhouses and detached villas.
