Los Arqueros sits in the hills of Benahavís, just east of the A397 Ronda road where it climbs away from the coast towards the Sierra Blanca. The community grew up around Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club, the first course Severiano Ballesteros designed on the Costa del Sol, opened in 1991. It is a green, settled, family-scale place: a dozen or so urbanisations threaded through the fairways, with San Pedro de Alcántara and its beach about five minutes downhill and Puerto Banús ten to fifteen minutes east. You are inland enough for quiet and the evening breeze off the hills, close enough that the sea is never really far.
This is a mixed, lived-in community rather than a second-home enclave that empties out of season. Golfers are drawn by the course on the doorstep; families come for the space, the security and the school run; and there's a steady international set of year-round residents alongside holiday-home owners. Northern European buyers are well represented, along with Spanish families who like being above the coastal bustle. It suits people who want a real neighbourhood with gardens, pools and a clubhouse, not the glass-and-marble intensity of the Golden Mile.
Villas dominate Los Arqueros, and they set the character of the place: detached single-family homes on landscaped plots, many with golf frontage and sea or mountain views, ranging from comfortable 1990s Andalusian-style houses to fully rebuilt contemporary properties with pools and home gyms. Around them sits a good supply of townhouses and apartments in gated developments, which is what keeps the entry point sensible.
The neighbourhood is really a collection of named urbanisations rather than one estate. You'll see Los Arrayanes Golf, Los Balcones, Las Terrazas, Las Jacarandas, El Alto, La Finca, La Torre, Las Encinas, Los Olivos and others, each with its own communal gardens and pools. They differ in age, density and outlook, which matters more than the postcode: two villas a few hundred metres apart can feel very different depending on aspect, the slope of the plot and whether the golf sits in front of you or behind.
Los Arqueros covers a wide band, which is part of its appeal. Apartments and townhouses in the gated communities generally start in the mid-hundreds of thousands and run up towards the low millions for larger, well-positioned units. Villas typically begin around the two-million mark and stretch well into the multi-millions for substantial modern homes on front-line golf plots; the newest, largest contemporary builds can sit higher still. As a rule, golf frontage, an open sea view and a flat, usable plot are what carry a price, and that's exactly where homes are most often over-asked. We'll always show you where the premium is fair and where it isn't.
Day-to-day life leans on the golf club and on San Pedro de Alcántara just below, with its long dark-sand beach, beachfront promenade, supermarkets and restaurants. Benahavís village, known for its dining, is a short drive inland, and Puerto Banús adds the marina, shopping and nightlife when you want it. Families are well served for schooling: Laude San Pedro International College is down in San Pedro, Atalaya International School sits over towards the Estepona–Benahavís border, and Aloha College in Nueva Andalucía is an easy reach, all British-curriculum options.
For getting around, the A397 links you to the AP-7 toll motorway and the coastal road within minutes, and the community itself is gated with roving security. Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport is roughly an hour east; Gibraltar is a similar drive west. A car is essential here, as it is across most of inland Benahavís, but the connections are genuinely quick.
Because Los Arqueros is really many small urbanisations, we spend our time on the differences that don't show in a portal listing: which streets catch the breeze and the afternoon light, which communities have healthy reserve funds and reasonable fees, and which plots flood with traffic noise from the Ronda road. We'll walk you through aspect, build quality and what a sensible offer looks like, and we'll happily tell you when to wait or look one urbanisation over.
